Motivation for Smart People (Sans Chest Pounding) July 25th, 2006 by Steve Pavlina

Do you ever feel there’s a greater being inside of you just bursting to get out? You can feel its presence sometimes, can’t you? It’s the voice that encourages you to really make something of your life. When you act congruently with that voice, it’s like you’re a whole new person. You feel like a god in a human body. You’re bold and courageous. You’re strong. You’re unstoppable.

But then reality sets in, and soon those moments are history. Where did that powerful voice go? Were you merely suffering from delusions of grandeur?

It isn’t hard to temporarily put yourself into an emotional state of power. Just go to any Tony Robbins’ concert seminar, and he’ll have you dancing in the aisles feeling totally motivated. Put on your favorite fast-tempo music, stand tall, breathe strong, chest out, shoulders back. Strut around like a superhero. Shout, “Yes!” Pound your chest a few times for good measure. You’ll look like a dolt, but this does actually work.

But then you go home, and the emotional motivation fades away. Your great ideas now seem impractical. How many times have you been temporarily inspired with an idea like, “I want to start my own business,” and then a week later it’s forgotten? You come up with inspiring ideas when you’re motivated, but you fail to maintain that level of motivation through the action phase.

So how do you reach the point of high motivation and stay there?

Emotional motivation

Tony Robbins says the key to motivation is state management. This means conditioning yourself to feel a certain way via techniques like anchoring (connecting an emotion to a physical trigger). When Tony pounds his chest while speaking, he’s firing off anchors he previously conditioned. The downside is that you need to keep firing off these anchors as well as periodically reconditioning them to keep your motivation up. That means lots and lots of chest pounding.

As another motivational method, Tony suggests writing down the pleasure you associate to a task as well as the pain of not doing it. Again the idea here is to stir up your emotions, so you’ll be motivated to take action. This type of motivation is usually short-lived, even when the emotions involved are very intense.

I studied and practiced these kinds of emotional motivation techniques extensively during my 20s. In the long run, I didn’t find them particularly effective. My intellect saw right through all the chest pounding. The logical part of my mind was ultimately dissatisfied with attempts to induce motivation through emotional manipulation.

Have you ever seen one of those rah-rah motivational speakers? If the speaker is good, s/he will have an emotional effect on you and get you to feel motivated. But within a day or two, that emotional boost fades away, and you’re back to normal. You can listen to hundreds of motivational speakers and experience an emotional yo-yo effect, but it doesn’t last. I think this is especially common with technically minded people. We’re accustomed to thinking with our heads. We’re still emotional creatures on some level, but our emotional B.S. detectors periodically scrub our minds free of anything that doesn’t satisfy our logic.

Intellectual motivation

I used to get frustrated when my emotional conditioning fizzled out after a while. Eventually I realized that being guided by intellect, not emotion, wasn’t such a bad thing after all. I just had to learn to use my mind as an effective motivational tool. I stopped using emotional motivation techniques and decided to see if I could motivate myself intellectually. I figured that if I wasn’t feeling motivated to go after a particular goal, maybe there was a logical reason for it. Perhaps I just wasn’t taking my logic far enough to see it.

I noted that when I had strong intellectual reasons for doing something, I usually didn’t have trouble taking action. I’m motivated to exercise regularly because doing so is intelligent and reasonable. I don’t need to emotionally pump myself up to go to the gym. I just go.

But when my mind thinks a goal is wrong on some level, I usually feel blocked. I eventually realized that this was my mind’s way of telling me the goal was a mistake to begin with.

Sometimes a goal seems to make sense on one level, but when you look further upstream, it becomes clear the goal is ill advised. Suppose you work in sales, and you set a goal to increase your income by 20% by becoming a more effective salesperson. That seems like a reasonable and intelligent goal. But maybe you’re surprised to find yourself encountering all sorts of internal blocks when you try to pursue it. You should feel motivated, but you just don’t. The problem may be that on a deeper level, your mind knows you don’t want to be working in sales at all. You really want to be a musician. So no matter how hard you push yourself in your sales career, it will always be a motivational dead end. You’ll never convince your mind to give up on your more important dream of being a musician.

When you set goals that are too small and too timid, you suffer a perpetual lack of motivation. Try all the emotional conditioning techniques you want, but you’re wasting your time. Deep down you already know the truth. You just need to summon the courage to acknowledge your true desires. Then you’ll have to deal with the self-doubt and fear that’s been making you think too small. There’s no getting around that if you want to experience lasting motivation. Ironically, the real key to motivation is to set goals that scare you.

I recommend working through these kinds of blocks in your journal. Type a question like, “Why am I feeling unmotivated to achieve this goal?” Then type whatever answer comes to mind. You’ll often find that the source of your block is that you’re thinking too small. You’re letting fears, excuses, and limiting beliefs hold you back. Your subconscious mind knows you’re settling, so it won’t provide any motivational fuel until you step up, face your fears, and acknowledge your heart’s desire. Once you finally decide to face your fears and drop the excuses, then you’ll find your motivation turning on full blast.

When I use this process myself, I uncover new goals that seem unreasonably big. I admit that I want them, but I feel incapable of achieving them. However, when I finally step up and set goals that lie outside my comfort zone, somehow I end up feeling very motivated, and I summon all sorts of unexpected resources to help me.

Was it unreasonable to set a web traffic goal of reaching a million monthly visitors without spending any money on marketing? I originally thought so, but I privately set that goal before I ever launched this site because it inspired me. More reasonable traffic goals had no motivational effect on me. Now that I’ve achieved that goal, my next traffic goal is to reach 10 million visitors a month. Is that unreasonable? Probably. But somehow it’s very motivating to me.

It seems counter-intuitive that motivation may be highest when setting goals that lie outside your comfort zone, but I’ve seen this pattern too many times to discount it. Perhaps we have to set big, hairy, audacious goals in order to feel truly motivated. Maybe little goals just aren’t enough to trigger the release of motivational energy. If we think a goal is too easy, we won’t commit all our internal resources. It’s only when we set unreasonable goals that all our internal resources come online, including motivation and drive.

When I set a goal that’s big enough and challenging enough, I never need to pump myself up with emotional rah-rah. I feel motivated to pursue the goal because my intellect is fully behind it. I just find myself doing what needs to be done. No chest pounding required.
Paul DuBois - Writing MySQL Programs Using C

Many web developers view development of C programs as a bit of a black art. Development of programs in a compiled language such as C is vastly different from the development of applications in a scripting language. To familiarize more developers with the MySQL C API, we present a three-part series of articles tailored to developers looking to get into C program development with MySQL. This first article is the full chapter from Paul DuBois' industry-standard work, MySQL, Third Edition, from Pearson Publishers. The second article, from Mark Schoonover, to be published next week, will cover development with the C API using the Eclipse CDT to write a sample program. The third article, also from Mark Schoonover, will go into more depth and expand the example program using more advanced features of the API.

The chapter covers a lot of ground, covering the following topics:
Starting development with the C API for MySQL
How to write client programs that communicate with the server over secure connnections using the Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) protocol.
How to write applications that use libmysqld, the embedded server library.
How to send multiple statements to the server at once and then process the result sets that come back.
How to use server-side prepared statements.
Rahasia Bagaimana Mendapatkan Pinjaman Uang Hingga Rp 1,3 Miliar, TANPA JAMINAN DAN TANPA BUNGA, Yang Bisa Dilakukan Siapa Saja Dengan SANGAT MUDAH DAN PASTI DIPENUHI.

Selecting the Right Recruiter for Your Sales Hiring NeedsBy CJ Ng

Due to the acute shortage of experienced, good sales people, more and more companies are looking to hiring such sales people (and sales managers too) through headhunters. Unfortunately, most of the results are quite disappointing.

The purpose of companies engaging headhunters is usually to seek direct and alternative ways to source for good candidates. Alternative in the sense that the candidate will not be reading about the position in recruitment ads. Instead, companies hope that headhunters will have a large pool of ready candidates, and in lieu of that, can actually make the cold-calls and poach the right candidates from other companies.

Unfortunately, many headhunters, including some international ones, tend to be rather passive in the hiring process. If they have a good pool of suitable people, that's great. If not, they simply take out an advertisement and publicise the vacancy, something which the hiring company could have done by themselves anyway.

In many cases, the consultants working for the headhunters tend to be also very junior, and may not have the right exposure to decide what will make a good fit for the hiring company. They may be susceptible to manipulation by some candidates, and in some cases, even willfully recommend the hiring company to meet up with less-than-qualified candidates, just to prove hey are doing their jobs.

As a result, most headhunters don't really add value to the hiring companies. That's no to say that all headhunters are bad. There will be times that headhunters can save time and resources while providing candidates that fit at the same time. It's a question about how you evaluate and choose whom to work with.

Here's a list of questions that you may want to ask yourself, or the prospective headhunter, before you decide hiring them:

How is the track record of the headhunter? How many sales or sales management positions have they filled in the past year? Can they give you references from their other clients for similar positions?

Do they understand your business, and the qualities and behaviours needed to succeed for the candidates? Will they know if the candidate will fit into your unique sales culture?

Do the consultants have real work experience, or are they fresh out of school? Do they have a structured interview process that allows them to identify the good-fits from the rest?

Do they pro-actively solicit good candidates in your industry? If yes, how well do they perform for such pro-active recruitment?

Do they guarantee you a time frame for the search?

Will you be updated regularly on the progress?

Do they make reference checks? How do they make them? (note: your competitor will be most delighted if you were to hire their worst performing sales person, and hence may give glowing references!)

While engaging headhunters may save some time and resources, there is still a lot of groundwork to be done in the initial process. Headhunters should not be perceived as the "all cure" that solves all your hiring problems in an instant. Instead, the good headhunters will be your partners in identifying and planning for your long-term hiring needs.

How to Lead a Stress-Free Life

When you were born you did not come with a set of instructions. In fact, if you are an only/eldest child, you parents might have raised you with a lot of trial and error. Growing up, you have probably anticipated the glories of adulthood, only to find out that it was not so bad being a kid. After all, Mum and Dad had all the responsibilities, paid all the bills, and dealt with any challenges that came up. Now, your shoulders are weighted down. You need to consider a life-makeover and learn how to lead a stress-free life.

Leading a stress free existence does not mean that you will never have any challenges or concerns in your life. Instead, you can learn how to deal with the situations in life, without letting them throw you under the bus, so to speak. In other words, what amount of worry and stress can change you circumstances? So, instead of reacting and building a mountain of stress, a life-makeover can teach you how to act. You can take control of how you deal with the everyday challenges.

Part of knowing how to act and cope with stressful situations is also realizing when to step back and take care of yourself. Although you friends and family can make a pretty good guess, you are the only person that understands exactly how you feel and when you need to take a break.

Knowing when to stop the regular routine and detour for a little fun is part of learning how to treat yourself right, and avoiding getting in over your head, until stressful situations that come up are impossible to manage. You need a chance to rest, unwind, and just enjoy yourself. Even if you love your job, and are at the top of your game, you cannot work your life away and avoid stress and burnout.

Even the most gung-ho executive will benefit from time off. Not only will friends and family be grateful, if you take time off from work and potentially stressful situations, you will be more productive and better equipped to handle life's little surprises, if you give yourself a chance to rejuvenate.

If the pressures of life often weigh you down, you definitely need to learn how to lead a stress-free life. If you are truly committed to making a change, a life-makeover can help you find a balance. You can learn how to act, instead of simply reacting to challenging situations. Likewise, you can discover the importance of allowing yourself to simply enjoy life and all the blessing it has to offer. You can change your life for the better-starting today!

Home Remedies For Panic Attacks - How To Deal With Panic Attacks2

I personally was close to death about 15 years ago, but experiencing a panic attack was somehow worse. I just did not know what was happening to me, and since I had that first one, I always expect another one to happen. It is scary! I am not a person to depend on medication, so I did some research and here are some home remedies, or few steps you can take to deal with panic attacks.

The very first thing you need to do is to avoid coffee and sugar loaded food. Coffee and nicotine will trigger your panic attacks. Even alcohol can do so. If you can, eliminate these complete and replace them with natural teas. The one I use is brand name Java and on the box it says anxiety. It costs around 3-4 dollars and you can get it at local health stores. Even some major grocery stores (health aisle) may carry them.

Another way to deal with panic attacks is to discussing issues with your loved one's. I talk to my wife and friends. At first I felt very uncomfortable doing this, but let me tell you, I saved a lot of money on therapy this way. When you talk about things, you really get a lot of things out and the weight of the problem or issue somehow eases! During my research to find ways to deal with panic attacks, I discovered that a lot of people had a this problem because of some unpleasant event that happened. Since than, I strongly believe that the actual cause of panic attacks is distress and not stress, but of course there will be people who will argue with me and it is my opinion only.

Another good way to get rid of anxieties is to exercise if you can. Personally for me exercising is difficult since I have disability, running and walking is really out of the question, but I can lift weights and I do so as often as I can. The benefit of exercise is that often you will get rid of a lot of negative energy and it will help you think clearly. During a lot of my weight lifting sessions, I will think of possible solutions for the problems I am dealing with!

There are a lot of relaxation techniques you can learn as well. Breathing exercises do work. When you exercise physically, you breath faster and that helps you calm down as well, but if you cannot exercise and need to calm down, just breath in and out. Here is one simplest exercise I use! If you can lay down, but if not sitting will be o.k. as well. I inhale very slowly and say, "I am", than I exhale and say "relaxed". If you can do this at least 10 times and the result will surprise you.

Where the biggest problem happens is in your mind! Starting with your first panic attack, which was the scariest experience of my life, and from than on, you always fear that the next attack is going to happen any minute. That is where the real problem is! The ways to deal with anxiety listed above, are going to help you because there will be less panic attacks, but you really need to learn how to deal with anxiety and panic attacks the moment they are happening. These home remedies for dealing with panic attack have really reduced the number of anxieties I get, but finding few techniques that help me deal with panic attack when it happens, solved my problem almost entirely!

My anxiety attacks were hurting my lifestyle a lot! I went from a fun guy to be around, to a person who just wanted to be left alone. With home remedies and one guide to change my mind set, I was able to go back to being who I used to be!

Home Remedies For Panic Attacks - How To Deal With Panic Attacks

Many years ago, my wonderful friend Jan was explaining to me how she counsels patients on making small changes in their diets in order to lose weight. She told me that one of the major stumbling blocks people experience with weight loss is guilt. It wasn't just an inability to follow a particular meal plan or exercise regimen, although that was certainly a factor. Rather, it was this overwhelming sense of failure at not being able to do what they believed they "should" have been able to do.

Because her clients were constantly telling her "I should eat better," I should exercise more," "I should not have had those cookies, because now I am a bad person," she came up with this wonderful phrase: don't SHOULD on yourself.

Isn't that a wonderful piece of advice? Well, you absolutely must watch how you say it, and who you are with when you say it; yet, when stated slowly and clearly, it does cover a lot of area.

Think about it for a moment. What do you experience when you think you haven't done the things you "should" have done? How do you feel when you didn't meet your exercise goal? When you didn't lose all the weight you thought you should lose in a week? Probably not good. Why do you think this is true? Usually it's because you've set yourself a goal (run 5 miles every day OR never eat chocolate again) that is impossible to meet. And, when you are unable to meet your goal, you feel terrible. For some reason, while we often say "patience is a virtue", we are unable to apply it to very personal situations, such as improving our health by losing weight and beginning to exercise. We set amazingly unrealistic goals (lose 25 pounds, run the marathon) and expect to be able to accomplish these goals-yesterday. We set high expectations for ourselves, goals that are impossible to meet. Then, when we realize we cannot possibly live up to these expectations, we conclude we have failed; never having seen that failure was the only outcome we could have expected.

Being "at peace with food" involves a taking a journey to develop a new relationship with food. Instead of being marked by frustration and disappointment, by fear and competition between you and the food you eat, food eventually takes its place as one of the many activities in your life, along with family, friend, working and being active.

Being at peace with food, and with yourself allows you to make choices to improve your health that are more realistic. You learn to move more slowly, realizing that you are not in a race to become healthy. Rather, you are developing a new relationship with yourself, and new relationships, if they are to be good ones, take time. You are able to set small, realistic goals, beginning at a slow pace, and increasing over time. For example, you start by walking an extra five minutes three times/week, and build it up to 25-30 minutes three times a week. You realize that you are full after eating 2 cookies, so you don't have to eat five. You learn to appreciate smaller portions, because you know you are allowed to eat more if you want.

Finally, you learn how to change behaviors because you realize you want to, not because you should.

De-Stress Your Body Fast

In nursing school I learned that 85% of all illness and dis-ease is caused by Stress. Why do we continue to treat the symptoms rather than the cause? In this article you will learn four quick tips to treat the cause of stress in your body.

What is Stress? Hans Selye coined the terms stess, and general adaptation syndrome (GAS), a complex of reactions to prolonged unrelieved stress, in 1936. Briefly, we have primitive fight and flight responses which are designed to effectively help us deal with immediate threats to survival. When these responses are engaged for long periods without rest deterioration of the body ensues. Chronic stress keeps the immune system shut down resulting in chronic illness.

Unfortunately, a lot of us are on "red alert" for long periods in this high-pressure culture. It is important to give your body some much needed rest and supplies to combat the fatigue of long-term stress.

Here are some quick and easy tips for de-stressing your body. They take very little time to do and pay off greatly in not only reducing stress, but also in building more energy and stamina.

These tips are simple and practical to incorporate into your busy schedule. Yet, I think you will agree that in our hectic days we often ignore these basic human needs.

Tip 1~ Breathe

Take a moment before going on to the next task in your day for this simple act: take a deep breath, center yourself and smile. What a difference that moment will make toward relaxing and restoring your body and mind for the next situation.

Why it works~

When the body stresses, breathing becomes shallow. You may even notice that you hold your breath. Consciously taking a deep breath gives your cells the oxygen they need, so the body begins to relax and the mind is sharper. When you take that breath deep into the pelvic floor, you will find you stand up straighter and feel more centered and balanced. Standing strong and in charge of your next step feels great, so smile. When you smile, you actually feel better. Your body takes that physical cue as an indication that you are happy, so endorphins start to flow. A genuine smile cues everyone around you too. You may find that others respond better to you as well. Take this simple action several times today. Feel the difference it makes in your outlook at the end of the day. Teach it to others and see the difference it can make in the whole group!

Tip 2~ Eat

Taking just a few moments for you, before giving to others is time well spent. Now, you are giving from your abundance rather than from an empty basket. Speaking of empty baskets, how about those nutritionally empty cells of yours. Pack a piece of fruit, some nuts, raisins or other quick snacks to have on hand when you feel the need to work beyond meal breaks. Something you can grab fast instead of donuts, candy or fast food from the vending machine. This does not require elaborate preparation, or time. Grab a zip lock bag, throw in a few unsalted nuts, dried berries, raisins, or other dried fruits, or natural foods you like in it, and put it in your pocket, purse or desk. I also have supplements in my energy pack. Take a handful or two whenever you feel a hunger pang or drop in energy.

Why it works~

A small change in eating can create a huge increase in energy levels immediately and in health over time. Your cells need nutrients to produce energy for work and to regenerate when they are under stress. Fast food, sugar and salt actually have a deteriorating effect on the body. Sugar can provide a temporary high, but to balance that high the body will rebound with an equal or greater low. You actually have less energy in the end. Eating a little bit of nutritious food every couple of hours not only feeds the cells what they need, it also has side benefits. When your body knows you are going to feed it regularly, it stops packing on fat to prevent you from starving. You won't get so famished you would eat anything in sight as long as it is fast (donuts, chips, fast food). As a bonus, your body may also release a few unneeded pounds, which can make everything feel lighter.

Tip 3 ~ Drink Water

Most of us have gotten into the habit of drinking many things our body cannot use (caffeine, sugar, carbonation). Replace one beverage a week with pure water and feel the rejuvenation in your cells. Ease into this change by replacing just one soda or cup of coffee with a glass water each week. Over a few weeks, your body will actually desire more water, and the transition becomes easy. You will find that your body prefers water once you get started. Keep a mug of water on your desk, or strap on one of those water bottles, so you always have some with you. Sip it all day long. Yes, you will need to take precious time to pee more often at first. This is time well spent. Once your body gets used to the idea that you will be giving it the valuable water it needs regularly, it will stop retaining water. Your drinking and peeing ratio will level out in a couple of days. As your cells re-hydrate, you will look and feel younger and more vibrant.

Why it works~

Our cells are predominantly water. We need to replace the water lost from sweating, tears and the body's heating and cooling system on a continuous basis. Dehydration is associated with decreased energy, increased hunger, tiredness, and aging wrinkled skin. In addition to actually drinking water, you can eat more water-based foods, like fresh fruits and vegetables for hydration. Another good reason for replacing carbonated beverages with water is that carbonation leaches minerals from your body.

Tip 4 ~ Rest

Take a break every couple of hours or whenever possible. There have been many studies proving that workers who take a break increase their productivity. While you are taking that break, stretch your arms, back and legs. Most animals stretch regularly. Watch a cat or dog sometime, and notice how often they stretch.

Why it works~

Stretching improves the elasticity and mobility of the body, which allows for more relaxed movement and less tension. Resting the body and the mind to a state of quiet opens the senses and the mind for more presence in the moment, creativity and peace. When you create some spaces in your day, you can experience more of what is present and come up with creative solutions to stressful situations.

Putting the pieces together~

While you are taking that stretch break for 5-10 minutes, have a glass of water, pop some of those nutritional snacks, take a deep, deep breath into the floor of your pelvis, let it out and smile. Feel the return of energy and relaxation to your body, clarity to your mind, and caring to your heart.

When you feel stressed and depleted, try these simple tips for incorporating the basic needs of your body ~ breathing, eating, drinking water and rest ~ into your hectic day. Experience for yourself how taking care of YOU, provides the precious resources you need to do what needs to be done from a place of strength and abundance.

Think And Grow Rich - Tips On How To Change Your Thinking To Success Thinking

Contrary to what many people think and many dictionaries suggest, atheism is not a belief. It is simply the lack of belief in "God " or gods. Before starting this article, I checked several dictionaries. In the first one, the definition of atheism given was, "The doctrine or belief that there is no God." What nonsense!

Fortunately, not all dictionaries define atheism in the same way, but many do make this mistake of equating a lack of belief with a belief in the opposite. Other definitions I found included, "Disbelief in or denial of the existence of God or gods," and even "Godlessness; immorality." At least that last one is half right.

Finally, I did find an online dictionary which has the following definition of atheism: "A lack of belief in the existence of God or gods." Amen!

How To Define Atheism

Definitions are tricky. There is no official arbiter of the English language, and if there were, he or she or they could make mistakes in any case. How do we decide what definition is best, then? We look at the reality which the word represents, and use a definition that best describes that reality. The fact that we disagree on the outcome doesn't invalidate the process or suggest that we need to put total faith in some "authority" to choose for us.

In this case, we look at what atheism actually is. It is clear that atheism isn't a belief, but a lack of belief. The believer is the one who claims a god exists. Atheism simply points to the reality that some people's belief systems don't include a belief in a god.

Some atheists (a small minority) may think they can "prove" the non-existence of gods. This, however, has nothing to do with atheism, anymore than a belief in Vishnu by some god-believers shows that theism is a belief in Vishnu. Atheism is simply the stance that "you have not proved your case, therefore I don't believe in your god."

The burden of proof is properly on the person making a claim. The typical atheist makes no claim about God, except that he doesn't believe. He has no obligation to prove non-existence. If I claim Mickey Mouse is the "supreme spirit" that rules our universe, would you feel obligated to start gathering evidence to prove me wrong? And how could you anyhow? The nature of these claims is that they are made in ways that make them not subject to any standards of evidence or proof.

Bottom line? Atheism is not a belief, and a proper definition of atheism is simply not believing in gods.

Small Business OpportunitiesBy Daegan Smith

Opportunities are everywhere. It just takes time for the person to see what is there and taking advantage of the situation or having someone else get to it first. The reality is that the market is filled with it and even someone with a small budget can launch a business and in the long term make it big.

When the individual was a teen and mom or dad will not give more money for allowance, the person had to do some odd jobs. This could biking around town delivering newspaper early in the morning or mowing the neighbor's lawn for extra cash.

The entrepreneur can use the experience to start a home maintenance company that offers grass cutting or cleaning services. If the place is covered with snow during the winter, snow plowing can also be offered to clear the roads and the driveways so the vehicles won't be stuck in the snow.

After enough money has been made, this can be expanded by buying more machines and hiring additional personnel to get work done from the clients. Should the person be good with numbers, this can also be put to good use by helping others. The specialist can ask for a fee for helping people get the papers ready when filing for income tax.

The individual can even set up an office later on to offer counseling services to help people apply for financing when renovating the home or applying for financial aid in school.

Opportunities also come about by filling a certain need. Every year, more than a thousand printer cartridges are finished then thrown away. These things can be refilled making it useable again that could save hundreds of dollars are year that can be used on other expenses. The person can set up an ink refilling business given that the capital is quite small. The only things needed are a few empty cartridges, ink and a few tubes to get it inside.

The empty cartridges can be sourced from offices that are throwing these away that can be returned making it useable. The demand for these things is large so sufficient stock must always be available to cope with the orders. The demands of work can really stress a person out so those who have some cash can start a spa to give special massages and aromatherapy sessions.

The small business can first start with an extra room in the house that can be spread by word of mouth. The person can then rent some commercial space later on to take in more customers who need to relax and recharge those stressed bodies.

The key to any business is good quality and excellent service. Those that were just mentioned are a few good ideas that entrepreneurs have prospered in that could also happen for the person.

There are other small business opportunities out there that do not require a lot of capital to get it started. It will be a good idea to do some research first to find out if a return of investment can be made in the long term.

At the end of the day, the direction it really depends on the individual who will have to spend countless hours balancing revenue versus expenses in order to earn a profit.

Reduce Stress Today With One Simple ShiftBy Angie Milhous

Do you struggle with people frequently letting you down and stressing you out? Do you secretly wish they would just do what you want and act like you would act? I used to say that I would really love my job if it weren't for the people. Rest assured that your reaction is completely normal and whether conscious or not, it is how most of us respond to situations that involve others.

So while you belong to a huge club...the club where we as humans want people to be like us and not stress us out...the truth is that the only one we can control is the one who stares at us in the mirror...and that includes our children. We cannot control the actions, emotions, intentions, or desires of others. All we can control is our actions, intentions, and desires.

So then, how do we reduce the stress and live more peacefully...especially at home? Isn't "home" supposed to be our haven? Yet so many times "home" is where we fight with our kids, where we feel the exhaustion from giving so much at work, where we long for one night peace and really enjoy our children instead of running here and there.

So today's tip is this...Learn to live in curiosity rather than judgment/blame. Here is what I mean. Think of a toddler who hasn't had many of life's experiences. Everything is new and bewildering to them. They ask "why" rather than assuming they know the answer. Most of us unconsciously project our judgments and preconceived opinions onto everyone around us. If we encounter someone rude, we automatically internalize it as a personal attack and get offended. If we were to live in curiosity we might say to ourselves "I wonder why she is so sad, mad, angry at life, etc...and we would go about our business without it altering our mood.

The same technique can be done in our homes. When you feel that familiar tensing sensation or find yourself beginning to "react" to a situation, take a quick second and try wonderment instead. You might say to yourself "I wonder why Mary is choosing to be grounded for breaking curfew". This way you can stay calm and let the consequences teach Mary about responsibility, not your anger. Besides, when Mary is able to fight with you, she is avoiding responsibility and you are letting her. She wants to bait you into an argument because then she can be mad at you and not take responsibility for her own actions.

So try curiosity a few times and let us know how it works. The first couple of times will seem strange to you and your kids but I guarantee that it will create more peace in your home.

How Do You Master Success When Life is Filled with the Good, the Bad and the Ugly?

Today is a good day even with 8 or more inches of snow on the ground, temperatures in the single digits, a couple of new leads, a couple of appointments and a commitment on a small contract. Yes, as my coach, David Herdlinger, says Life is Good.

Life is also good when the bad and the ugly happen at the same time. For example, a car out of commission for 2 days to a minor eye infection. Yet, by keeping focused on my personal action plan, my W.A.Y. Smart goals, I am able to stay with the good in spite of the bad and the ugly. The ability to master success is always within me and this I know to be true.

For how many people, do you know, even when life is filled with the good still look for the bad and the ugly? They fear all the negative forces. And in that fear, they actually draw those forces so much closer to them. Ever hear of the Law of Attraction?

Salespeople focus on the sales that they don't have.
Management focuses on all of what is not working instead of seeing all of what is working.
Individuals see all the wrongs in their lives instead of all the possibilities, all of the good in life.

We can choose to have a life filled with good even when life is at that moment is bad and ugly for this too shall pass provided we know our purpose, have a personal action plan and keep our passion fueling both our purpose and our plan. Or we can be like a rudderless ship, traveling from port to port, never anchoring, never knowing where we are going, what we will be experiencing. Leaving our lives to the fates of the Bad and the Ugly.

The bad and the ugly will always be with us as will the good. What we need to do is to remember we receive what we believe and then taken the appropriate actions. Yes, Life is Good.

Music Therapy And Stress Management

In this increasingly competitive world, one needs to excel in all areas of life in order to be able to survive. In the process of striving to be the best, often we try to flex ourselves too much, sometimes even beyond our natural capacities. As a result of too much stretching, we begin to feel stressed out and experience the numerous symptoms associated with stress. If this kind of stressful atmosphere or pressure ends in a short period of time then it is okay, but if the stressful atmosphere prevails for a prolonged period of time and shows no sign of ending, such as in a challenging career or a demanding job, then the high stress levels begin to take its toll on your health and overall being.

Stress can manifest itself in the form of speech difficulties, headaches, nail biting, hair loss, gastric problems, increased or decreased appetite, increased or reduced sleep, increased or decreased blood sugar levels, increased or decreased blood pressure, etc. It might even manifest itself in the form of trembling, constipation, sweating, nausea, cold hands or dryness of mouth. Stressed out people are often irritable, angry, depressed, with low-self esteem, impatient, anxious and always have a tendency to cry.

If you cannot eliminate the source of stress, like if you cannot quit the stressful job because you love the rewards associated with it (either in monetary terms or in terms of name and fame associated with the job or simply the experience and learnings associated with the job), then you will need to learn how to cope with this stressful work environment and the challenges associated with it.

There are many stress eradicators available in the market today. They rage from colorful dietary supplements (containing multivitamin, mineral and antioxidants) to the very expensive sauna baths, or cheaper holistic alternatives like meditation, Yoga and music therapy. Everyone loves some or the other form of music and therefore, any kind of relaxing music helps stressed out people to calm down, relax and heal their stress. One must opt for music with a cyclical pattern and a rhythm that is slower than their heart beat. While the music plays, you must take deep breaths until your breathing slows down and become more regular. It is more relaxing when you learn to concentrate on the silence between the notes.

It is always better to go for music that your brain is familiar with. You can even combine music with walking, jogging or aerobics to obtain double benefit. Musical forms of expression such as drumming give a vent to the stress built up within the mind. The healing power of music therapy helps regain the lost self-esteem, facilitates expression and communication, thereby allowing social ties to develop. Gradually, both the emotional as well as physical signs of stress are erased with prolonged use of music therapy.

With the growing number of people who want to make changes in their lives, it's no wonder people question that they can think themselves to riches. It is true however that you can change your overall thinking to become more successful and richer. How you think about a lot of areas of your life can determine your amount of success. Here are a few tips on things to be aware of that have an effect on your success personally and financially.

How you feel about people who have more money or success than you change effect your motivation to improve your life. The people you already spend time with probably have about the same income as you do. One way to increase your success is to find a new friend or two that are in a higher financial arena and learn some of the things they did to get to the levels they are at. When you put some of these things into place you will be pleasantly surprised how your personal and financial situations begin to change. It does not happen overnight but it does happen.

Another way you can insure that you grow and succeed is to continue learning from other sources. There are books, CD's and many types of seminars available to help you grow your know and in turn grow your success. But these are the same people that wonder why they stay right where they are at and continue to be unhappy and unfulfilled in their desires for life.

So the fact of the matter is you can think yourself into a richer future. Your just need to put to work the things that really make the difference in your everyday life. You can change your personal and financial success forever.

Stress Management Tips - Real Tips That Work

Stress Management Tips - Real Tips That Work
Stress is a silent but major killer and responsible for many premature deaths. But you need not worry as there are some great tips that really work out there and I'll share them with you in this article.

Stress affects us all in some way or the other but have you ever noticed that some people just don't get stressed and wonder how they do it? Stress is all in the mind and is about your own personal thoughts and reactions to an event. If we give you less chance to react then you have less time to react and get stressed.

Humor Yourself

OK, I don't mean tell yourself jokes but watch more comedy shows on TV and read more humorous books. Don't bother watching the news as much on TV as it will just depress you. When you watch stories on famine, war and terrorism then does it make you happy? I'd rather watch Friends or Seinfeld.

Exercise Regularly

Maybe you think that working out has nothing to do with stress. Not so - first of all, working out will help mop up some of the bad chemicals in your body from being stressed earlier in the day but not having an outlet to get rid of them. Secondly, working out has a great effect on the mind. You don't need to go to the extreme of pro athletes but have you ever noticed how some of them seem to get "high" off exercise? Anyone including you can get these positive benefits.

Learn To Relax

Set aside some time every day to relax. Turn off your cellphone and television. Find a real quiet spot to just be yourself. The bedroom is usually best but sometimes even the bathroom can be a great place to find your isolation. Close your eyes and breathe deeply and look for your stomach to rise, not your chest. This slow breathing using the diaphragm is a great way to relax in seconds.

Have you tried to manage stress? Did it work? NO!

I can just hear you say "What are you talking about?" "Are you crazy?"

Well - the simple fact is that stress is NOT something you can manage. There is a lot of hype about stress being manageable, and it IS possible to be more efficient, and eliminate some of the time consuming tasks you face everyday. But eventually you WILL have to make a decision to STOP accepting more stress altogether.

Stress builds on you if you forget to wind down, so you have to decide to release your stress on a daily basis. And, by the way - watching TV does NOT release stress. When you watch the news or a movie - whether it is action, drama or thriller, you ADD to the stress you have already built up during your day.

We all have 24 hours to spend everyday. That's it. No more - no less. We talk about "saving time" - well what is that about? It's completely impossible to save time. The only thing you may do, is work harder, so that you feel stressed sooner. If you don't take time off regularly to REGAIN your strength - mentally as well as physically - you will end up being stressed - management or not.

So how to fight the stress? First of all, stress should not be fought. Stress is a reminder from your body that you have gone too far. When you exercise too much, you feel pain, and stop. Stress is pain in you psyche, and it can look like fattigue, depression, lack of sexual desire, tiredness, and eventually even as physical pains. Don't fight stress - accept it, and choose differently. Because YOU have chosen your own stress!

That's right. You did it. If you don't respect your limits - not saying no, or accepting to do too much. Why do you choose stress, when you know how dangerous it is? There are many reasons, but most have to do with the way you were brought up. You have been conditioned by your parents, teachers, friends and yourself to live your life the way you do.

You have accepted incredible amounts of information as "facts" daily since you were a child, simply because they are being conveyed by authorities in you life. When mom or dad tells you that "working hard is necessary to live in a harsh world" you may just accept it, and for the rest of your life you could believe that to be a fact. It will then affect all of your decisions that has to do with work and the world, as well as probably also affect your idea about money.

Look around you. The facts you find are true to you, may not be so to others. In fact most of what we hold true, is only true to us, and nobody else. The experts tell us what we have to do, in order to get what we want, and the next day another expert will tell you exactly the opposite. We are in conflict with ourselves, and that is creating big amounts of stress in us.

How can you escape this vicious circle?

1. First of all, you have to accept the fact you are caught, and want to get out.

2. Next, you must start doing something else.. If you keep doing what you have always done, you will get the results you have always gotten. Trying to get a different result by doing what you used to do, is illogical, and frankly naïve.

3. Thirdly you should make your desire to change visible. Take a piece of paper and write what you want. Don't write what you don't want! Whatever you write, you should make it positive and in the present tense. For instance: Don't write "I don't want to be stressed anymore" Instead write: "I am so happy that I am living the life I want with loving people around me." Place that piece of paper on your bedroom mirror, or somewhere else you will see it often. Better yet. Make several, and spread them across your walls and doors.

4. Take action. After having started the process, you will need discipline to make the change permanent. Be sure to congratulate yourself every 2-3 days with being firm, and keeping a promise to yourself. Go to a cafe, or invite yourself to a dinner at a restaurant. Visit some friends or do something else that characterizes as a pad on your shoulder.

5. Finally, when you have been going for a while, you will have made a permanent change. Usually this takes somewhere between 21 days and a month. Celebrate! when you have reached your goal - give yourself what you desire. This action will enhance your feeling of success, and motivate you whenever you want to make another change in your life.

Stress is destroying you, and cannot be managed - start changing the circle TODAY.

Dreams Are The Beginning First Steps When Traveling the Road to Success

Dr. Martin Luther King's famous speech I Have a Dream is well known by many. Yet, from my experience as an executive coach, many adults have lost the ability to dream. They have become so entangled with the day to day aspects of life, not to mention all the negative conditioning associated with dreaming, that they truly no longer know how to dream. And this is a terrific disadvantage when traveling the road to success.

Dreams are the fodder for our future accomplishments. From the I want to be President to I want to travel the world all began as dreams. Not holding onto those past dreams and not creating new dreams to replace the ones achieved is simply a big mistake.

I was once read a quote attributed to Louis Armstrong who said: Dreams are goals with endings. For the desire to achieve this or that, did start as an intangible thought or what we call a dream.

Take a moment right now to write down at least 5 dreams. Then as you find new dreams or remember old dreams commit those to writing as well. Revisit this list and see how you can turn those dreams into an accomplished goals.

You may need a goal setting process along with a tool to help you achieve those goals. Of course all of these goals should be aligned to your business growth action plan and personal action plan.

So as you are drinking your morning beverage, take some quiet time to begin to start recording your dreams as part of your overall plan to master success

Are some people just lucky when it comes to financial success? It may seem that a few select people have the ability to make as much money as they want to under any circumstances, but the truth is that you can do the same thing. Once you know the secret of financial success you can have anything you want and amass a large fortune within a short period of time. Here are some things to think about:

Focus on what you want in your life, instead of what you do not want. This is part of the positive attitude you must maintain if you want to be wealthy.

Write down your financial goal for the next year and the next 5 years. It has been proven that people who take the time to write down the exact goals they are working to achieve are many more times as likely to be successful.

Decide specifically what it is that you are trying to achieve. If you are starting a business or have another dream that will make your financial goal a reality, work on what you will need to do to achieve that goal. You may need to read books, take some classes, or find a mentor to work with you and to guide you. Success will come more readily if you do not attempt to do everything yourself.

Remember that success leaves tracks. Model yourself after people who are doing what you want to do. If you do not know who these people are, find out by asking. Join groups and organizations made up of wealthy, successful people. These people will want to help you to achieve your financial goals.

You will find that luck has very little to do with success. I encourage you to find out more about the secrets of growing rich in a short amount of time.

Reading Can Help Reduce Stress

Everybody has stress at one time or another. How you deal with it is a personal choice. You can take a walk, listen to music, get a massage, soak in a tub, watch television or read a book. Whatever you do that you enjoy and it relaxes you that is your stress reliever. When you feel you need to unwind and relax, that is the first sign of stress. Stress can affect your health so deal with it now and relax.

Reading is a great way to relax and reduce stress. When you pick up a book no matter which genre, it will take your mind off whatever is causing the stress for a short time. A book can take you to different places. Go to a South Pacific island with miles of beaches or the top of the Arctic. Go back in time or into the future as far as you want. Read about someone you are interested in, there are biographies and memoirs on just about everyone who was/is famous or important. Fantasy is a good way to help get away from all connections with present time stress. Go to another world, time or visit someone else's imagination. Need to laugh try reading a humorous book. There are some very funny books available on a large range of topics. Reading self-help books are also good for reducing stress. These books could help you pinpoint what is causing your stress. They can give advice on how to relieve the stress.

For the non-reader there are books for you also. Try reading up on new ideas, how-to, and technical information on your favorite hobby. Say your hobby is gardening, look up and read what new techniques there are available. Read the seed book and plan your next garden project. For the photographer check out the latest in cameras or styles of photographs that are currently popular. Start a hobby to help reduce stress by first reading up on the where, when and how to do it. Reading is a year round activity so when you cannot do your normal stress reducing activity read about it.

Reading can also help reduce stress by providing answers to problems. By reading books that can give advise or instructions on how to solve the problem. When the problem is solved you will feel more relaxed and the stress will melt away. Stress about weight problems can be helped by reading about health, diet and exercise in books. You may find your way to total fitness or back to where you want to be with advice from books. Stressed because you spend too much eating out because you cannot cook? Learn to cook from books! With either problem once you read how to get started the rest will follow. You are learning how to fix the problem and the stress level is reducing as you learn.

Stress affects your concentration. Reading helps you to focus and concentrate and exercises your mind. By exercising your mind your ability to concentrate and remember things will improve. This will also help reduce stress. Reading will also improve your spelling, vocabulary, and writing which will make you feel more confident and REDUCE STRESS!

About Water and Water Clusters

Water is an amazing and unique molecule. Our bodies and all living creatures on Earth depend upon this remarkable molecule for life. While water is said to have many magical qualities, science has studied it intensely. Today, lots of information and data has been collected regarding water making it perhaps the most well known substance on earth.

Water is made up of 2 hydrogen atoms and one oxygen atom. In its chemical form it is written as H2O. It should be noted that both atoms of hydrogen form a covalent bond to the oxygen. A covalent bond is a term used when chemicals share pairs of electrons (which is a part of an atom) amongst other atoms. In water's case, 2 hydrogen atoms share electrons with the Oxygen atom creating a bond. Many of water's properties are a result of its covalent bonds and the structure of this molecule once it bonds.

For instance, water is a neutral molecule, as opposed to positive or negatively charged. However, due to the structure of the water molecule, the positive and negative charges that balance out its neutrality are not distributed uniformly the result of this charge displacement is that the water molecule creates an electric dipole.

You probably already learned that opposite charges attract, so the partially positive hydrogen atom on one water molecule is electro-statically attracted to the partially negative oxygen atom on a neighboring molecule. This process is called hydrogen bonding. In a water molecule the hydrogen bond is considerably weaker. It is so weak that any hydrogen bond between water molecules cannot survive for more than a tiny fraction of a second. This is important to note, because it is one of the main reasons water forms in clusters.

A Few Facts About Water

H20 molecules attract each other through dipole to dipole interactions known as hydrogen bonding.

H2O molecules that are in hydrogen-bonded clusters are the molecularly favorable configuration.

A hydrogen-bonded cluster of water is four H2O molecules that are located at the corners of an imaginary tetrahedron.

H2O hydrogen-bonded clusters undergo rapid thermal motions on a time scale of picoseconds. This means that the lifetime of any specific water cluster will be extremely brief.
A lot of scientific interest has been directed at clusters of water. While many studies have been done and water clusters have been frequently observed using the latest technologies, there are still many questions that are left unanswered. Questions such as how does one distinguish molecules that are part of a cluster, from those molecules adjacent to it that are not? Another important question to ask is whether water clusters have any meaningful existence due to the fact they form for fleeting periods of time.

With lots of research being done, more light is being shed on the structure and properties of water clusters. Since they form new bonds many times per second, it can be difficult to isolate water clusters- even in the lab. However, new research suggests that the answers may be close at hand. Recently, an important discovery stated that 80% percent of water molecules that are bound are done so in chain-like fashion- only bonding to two other molecules at a time at room temperature. This finding has reinforced the view of a dynamically changing disordered water structure called the water cluster.
